Pragmatic Shelley

When you chat to Gallie Miles partner Shelley Greer, it’s not hard to see why she’s described by clients as being efficient and pragmatic.

“Shelley is a very good communicator and promptly responds to our requests,” says client Mary Karl.

“Each part of our legal journey has been handled efficiently, particularly making the complicated process of winding up our two Trusts easy for us to understand.”

“She has also given us both personal and professional ideas that makes us feel we are ‘in tune’ with her thinking,” says Mary.

The Taupo native has been working at Gallie Miles since 2016, initially working in the Litigation Team before transitioning into the Asset Protection and Trusts Team.

A Physio for 15 years before becoming a Lawyer, Shelley says she was always interested in the law and wanted a bit of a challenge.

“It’s not that different to physio in the way that you problem-solve,” says Shelley.

“In physio you have a patient walk in and tell you everything that’s wrong with them. Then it’s your job to narrow it down and diagnose / identify the issue before formulating a plan to rectify the issue. It’s the same with a legal issue.”

Shelley says the problem-solving aspect of her work is what she enjoys the most.

“I enjoy a challenge, so the more complex the legal issue, the better!” she laughs.

“I take a pragmatic approach, working with the client to problem-solve in the most efficient way possible.”

"The client relationship is at the centre of everything I do. I enjoy working with clients to develop and implement practical and enduring strategies for all aspects of their asset planning."

Getting back to her roots, Shelley and her husband are in the process of relocating back to Taupo. Shelley will split her time between Te Awamutu and Taupo, while making the most of what her hometown has to offer.

“I’m a real outdoors person and love to go mountain biking, rock climbing, skiing and mountaineering,” she says.

“I’m looking forward to my next challenge too – learning to fly fish.”
