Getting to know Georgia

Known for her patient and friendly nature, Georgia Read has recently joined the Gallie Miles Hamilton team as an Associate. Here we get to know her a little bit better.

Growing up in Pukekohe, Georgia was always drawn to subjects like English at school. Keen to study in Otago, she enrolled in Law at Otago University.

“It was that or health sciences!” she laughs.

After graduating she joined a private practice in Pukekohe, working for a couple of years on property and personal legal matters, before heading overseas to the UK.

“When I went to London it was at the height of the GFC (global financial crisis), so it was an interesting time for sure,” she says.

“I ended up working in property litigation between landlords and tenants, with an English boss and 8 or 9 Kiwis and Aussies. I had lots of fun travelling and really enjoyed my time there.”

Coming home she joined a firm in Auckland working mostly on mortgagee sales and property matters, in between starting a family.

Then husband Gareth got a new job working as an Environmental Manager on the Waikato Expressway project, so the family relocated to the Waikato and Georgia took a job at another Hamilton firm specialising in property law.

“We thought we’d move temporarily while our family was young (the kids now aged 9, 7 and 5), and we ended up loving Hamilton,” she says.

“We’ve found our people and Hamilton is a really cool city, so 7 years later and we’ve got no plans to go back. We love it here.”

After having her third child Georgia needed more flexibility so went out on her own running her own legal practice through Base Law.

She joined the Gallie Miles Hamilton team in July 2024 as an Associate, wanting to work as part of a larger team that is supportive and collaborative.

“The Gallie Miles team is fun, friendly and supportive and there is a culture of improvement and innovation here,” says Georgia.

“Joining such a well-respected firm that offers a broad range of legal expertise is great for my existing clients should they need something extra outside my expertise.”

She says “throughout my legal career I’ve loved helping my clients get from one point to the next point.”

“There is nothing I like more than seeing my clients walk away feeling confident that their affairs are in order so that they can live their lives to the fullest extent possible.”

Georgia is working within Bryce Bluett’s team at Gallie Miles Hamilton, specialising in property law, commercial law, Wills and Enduring Power of Attorney, Asset Protection, Succession and Commercial restructuring.
